On Wednesday, July 22, 2020 the Minister of Citizens’ Protection of Greece, Mr. Michalis Chrisochoidis, and FRONTEX Executive Director, Mr. Fabrice Leggeri, visited the Evros area in northern Greece. During their briefing in Border Control Station of Nea Vyssa, Mr. Chrisochoidis and Mr. Leggeri were also informed of the ongoing European funded H2020 ANDROMEDA project.
The ANDROMEDA project’s main objective is to further enhance, validate and demonstrate the Common Information Sharing Environment (CISE) by extending its scope to Land Border surveillance. Both officials were also shown one of ANDROMEDA’s Command, Control and Coordination system, as well as the current installations of fixed and deployable equipment; moreover, they were apprised of the added value the said system can bring to Border surveillance and Inter-agency cooperation.
The second trial of ANDROMEDA project’s demo phase will take place at selected jurisdiction areas of the Hellenic Police General Directorates of Orestiada and Alexandroupolis until February 2021, to test the system’s performance in actual operational settings.
